Below is a quote from the press release

Japan Infrastructure Waymark Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Takumi Shibata, hereinafter “JIW”), which provides infrastructure inspection solutions utilizing drones, and Aerodyne Group (Aerodyne Group), a drone solution company from Malaysia Headquarters: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Representative: Kamarul A. Muhamed, hereinafter “ADHQ”) will form a business alliance.

  1. Background of the business alliance
Infrastructure inspections in the field of power transmission and distribution equipment require the maintenance of high-quality inspections to maintain safety, security, and stability due to the aging of equipment and the shortage of maintenance inspectors.
On the other hand, drones are widely used for various inspections with the development of related technologies, and are attracting attention as a solution that leads to ensuring the safety of workers and shortening the time, but for inspections in the field of power transmission and distribution equipment in Japan. Due to legal and regulatory issues and technical issues, the introduction of drones has not progressed.
JIW was established on April 1, 2019 with the aim of conducting business that leverages the maintenance and management know-how of the information and communication infrastructure owned by the NTT West Group and the inspection results using drones. Currently, we are developing inspection services for various infrastructures such as steel towers, bridges, and slopes.
ADHQ was founded in 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is a company with a track record of inspecting various infrastructures in 25 countries around the world, mainly in Asia. We carry out inspections of 60,000 flights, 250,000 facilities, and 55,000 kilometers annually in power transmission and distribution facilities, and are highly evaluated in the world. * 1

Against this background, both companies will promote the introduction of drones into the field of power transmission and distribution equipment inspection by combining JIW’s inspection know-how and ADHQ’s drone flight and inspection technology.

  • 1 Received high praise in the world, such as being selected as the Asia-Pacific Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Services Company of the Year at the Asia-Pacific Best Practices Awards 2019 selected by Frost & Sullivan.
  1. Details of the business alliance (joint development and provision of drone inspection services for power transmission and distribution equipment)
Combining JIW’s operational excellence (application, risk assessment, problem detection, report submission, etc.) with ADHQ’s power transmission and distribution equipment inspection know-how (aerial photography / inspection know-how, inspection software, etc.), it becomes a Japanese business practice. We will jointly develop a drone inspection service for optimal electric power equipment, and JIW will exclusively sell this service and all services provided by the existing ADHQ in the Japanese market.
The service jointly developed through this business alliance will be expanded not only to infrastructure companies that own electric power facilities all over Japan, but also to Japanese companies that own assets overseas.

(Aim of business alliance)

(Role of both companies)

  1. Future policy
The two companies will not only inspect power transmission and distribution equipment, but also jointly develop inspection services for offshore structures, plants, pipelines, etc. with the aim of further expanding the structures to be inspected in Japan. In addition, we will consider opening an inspection center centered on Malaysian international students in Japan in order to build a foundation that can provide inspection services in a stable and efficient manner.
Through the efforts of both companies, we will contribute to the creation of a social environment where people can live with peace of mind by maintaining high-quality inspections.
