VR Wakayama Castle
Wakayama Castle was built in 1585 by Hideyoshi Hashiba, who ordered his younger brother Hidenaga.
It is said that Todo Takatora, who is known as a master of the castle, was in charge of the construction. When Hidenaga moved to Koriyama Castle, Shigeharu Kuwayama served as the castle lord.
It was opened to the public as Wakayama Park in 1901, and was designated as a historic site in 1931. After that, the castle tower was designated as an old national treasure in 1935, but it was destroyed by fire in the Wakayama air raid in 1945.
The current castle tower was rebuilt with reinforced concrete in 1958, and its appearance faithfully reproduces the appearance of the castle tower in the late Edo period, and is familiar to many people as a symbol of Wakayama Castle.
