Telecommunication and internet provider Globe and Smart provided free calling services for the victims nearest the Taal volcano explosion that started on Sunday, January 12.
The explosion caused massive ashfall in the nearest villages of the provinces of Batangas and Cavite.
“In incidents like these, staying indoors is always the best option. However, for our kababayans (countrymen) who are seeking refuge in our partner establishments, we are providing free unlimited internet services for them to inform their loved ones of their safety or their current condition should they need assistance,” said Janis Racpan, Globe director for Wi-Fi business group.
Smart, the other telecommunications giant in the country also provided its support for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. Load credits were specifically given to the volunteers of the agency.
The Taal Volcano is under Alert Level 4, which means a “hazardous” eruption may occur “within hours to days, making the companies action a necessity and a big help.
